Beautiful Weather and The Beach

John was home for the last week and we had decided
to take a trip to the beach. Since Myrtle Beach is
only about 4 1/2 hours away that's where we headed.
We stayed at Pirateland again, we like it there since
we are practically camping on the beach, only a
couple of steps and there you are.
The weather was beautiful. The temps were
in the 80's and the night were cool, but not cold.

We took walks along the beach and even found a few
more shell for the collection.
Prefect weather for camping.

It is so nice to have John home for more than just
a weekend. We enjoyed ourselves and hated to
see the week end.
Next trip though is to Fla. to the condo, this next month.
Hopefully the weather will still be just as nice there.

Fall is here!!

I just love the Fall!!
It's not to hot and not to cold. All the leaves start to turn their
beautiful colors and just brighten the world.
This last couple of weeks we were able to make a trip to
Pigeon Forge and do a little hiking and have some time with
part of the family. John III met us at the cabin and John and
Mary were already there and extended their stay while we
were there so we had a good time together. We went up to Andrews
Bald and went on that hike, needless to say there were a
couple of us that needed to rest more than others.
We of course played cards and had some chicken on the grill.
The leaves had not started changing as of that time. So that means
we'll just have to go back soon.
I was able to go up to Chicago and spend some time with John,
as we were going camping the next weekend in Indiana, at
Oaubache State Park. It is a nice park. We did some more hiking
and had way to much food.
After leaving there on Sunday we drove down to Cincinnati and
then the next day I was off to Ky., to visit my Mom. I got to visit for
about a week, which was nice since I don't get there as often as I would
like. I was able ot go and visit my Aunt and Uncle (who will be 103 years old
this Dec.)
I was also able to see Grandma Chasteen who isn't doing very well
right now, but our prayers are with her. We love her very much.
Also visited with Mary and Ronald. Ronald we hope you are feeling
better soon.
Now it's time to get busy and get the Fall/Halloween decorations
out and get some of the leaves mowed up, then just enjoy the
beautiful weather, before it does turn cold.

Jenny Wiley Here We Come

As we do almost every year now of a least
the last 10 years, we headed out to
Jenny Wiley State Park in Ky. We have
invited John's parents to go with us and they
have gone also. They usually stay in the lodge
there at the park, but this year decided to stay
with us in the camper.
We had a great time. Played a lot of cards, which
my dear husband managed to loose every game,
which is not like him, so we had to raze him about.
We went and saw Cinderella on Sat. night, at the
outdoor theatre that they have. The play was
very good, we had seen it a few years ago with
a different cast. We really like to go and see the
different performances they put on there. We
recommend it to anyone who likes outdoor
performances. The also have line dancing up on
their dance pad which the kids use to love to go to
when they were younger. We missed that this
year due to rain and going to the Theatre.
We decided to try something different and see how
it would turn out, so I made some doughnut dough
and we made fresh doughnuts for Sat. afternoon.
They were suppose to be for breakfast but we didn't
anticipate the dough to take as long to rise so we had
them for a snack before lunch. They actually turn out
great. We did them in the dutch oven over the fire.
So I'm sure this is something we will do again.
Next time I'll know to set the dough out earlier. This is a
picture of the 4 that were left for the next morning.
John just had to see how full he could get the doughnuts
before they burst. They were yummy!!

4th of July at the Westermeyers

Every year now for who know how many years
the Compston's and Westermeyers have
gotten together on the 4th of July. As the
families grow and have their own families we
seem not to have as many come. Some starting their
own traditions and others not able to be there
because of distance, or work.
This year we celebrated the 4th on the 3rd.
We still had around 23 of us there. We missed
everyone that couldn't be there.
We had a great time visiting, and of course eating.
If any of you know that group, it's eating the minute
you get there till practically the time you leave.
There was the playing of corn hole, which the younger
ones tried to get in on, also later in the day some of
them got out the paddle boat and went out on the
pond. Grandpappy was finally able to get Braeden
to go out with him, he was a little afraid that the fish
would jump up in the boat with him.
They feed the fish and enjoyed that, the fish were
on the large size.
A good time was enjoyed by all. Tara and the grand kids
were able to make it so that was a wonderful surprise.
It is always good to see everyone, but we did miss all of
you who couldn't make it.

Girls Camp 2010

This year I was ask to go to girl camp about 3 weeks
before it started. To say the least it was a rush to
get things done before it started.
We had 4 girls in our ward that went. It was a good
time, although the first 2 days we had rain, thunderstorms
and lighting. So to say the least we had wet things
to dry out, and a few tents to put back up.
Some wore wet shoe for a while, but all was good.
These pictures are kind of in backwards order but]
I'm being to lazy to straighten them out.
Thought you might enjoy seeing some of the
activities they did.

Our Getaway to Sapphire Valley, N.C.

John and I were able to get away together
about 3 weeks ago and we headed to Sapphire,
North Carolina. We stayed in a Time Share there.
This is a beautiful area with tons of waterfalls, We
got to around 9 or 10 of them. We had a wonderful
time spending time together and seeing all this beauty.
Thought I would share some of it with you. If
you ever get a chance to go here it is well worth
the trip. We plan on going again.

Narrow Falls

Bottom of Narrow Falls.

This is a snake that we saw on the road, we thought
it was alive but it turned out to be dead.

Whitewater Falls

John and I at Whitewater Falls

Beautiful flower close to the Falls.

This is a picture of John at Rainbow Falls.
We hiked in about 1 1/2 miles which was mostly
hill. After you got there the spray from the Falls
Cooled you and you didn't want to leave.

This is a picture of sliding rock, but not the one we
are use to going to, it's another one that we found.
Don't think it's much for sliding down though.
Looks as if you would kill yourself doing so.
Kind of rough.

through while looking for some of the water falls.

Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls. You can drive behind this
waterfall. It had a lot more water than
last time we were here.

Bridal Veil Falls. If you kids remember this is
the falls we went to a couple of years ago that
had very little water coming down it when they
had the drought.

This is Bald Rock Mtn.
This is sunset Rock Overlook, it overlooks the
town of Highlands. We decided to have our lunch
here and just look at the beautiful scenery.
This is a Trail that we went up trying to find Bald Rock Mtn.
We went up about 2 miles and never found it so we headed
back down.
