Playing Golf

Today we decided to just stay around the
time share. We sat out on the porch and read,
then in the afternoon we went and played
miniature golf. Of course there are no
pictures of me because I was behind the
camera. That evening we played cards
and enjoyed each others company. By the
way I guess you all know that I didn't win
the golf game. Had fun anyway.

Picnic on the road

We left this morning to drive up another Pass,
and decided to take a picnic lunch to have
along the way, and that's just what we did.
John pulled over to the side of the road and
that's where we had lunch. We pulled out our
chairs and sat there in the middle of the road
and had lunch, looking at the beautiful mountains
before us.

This is the scene we had for lunch. No one else
but us out there.
There were fields of wildflowers all up the Pass.
We stopped and took a few pictures

This picture was taken at the opposite end of the
road that we had our picnic. The scenery was
awesome every where you looked.

As we were coming down the road we happened to
see these cowboys rounding up their cattle. Home,
Home on the range.

Pagosa Springs

After getting to our Time Share , we took a walk
around the grounds. There was a pond right behind
our unit and also a golf course. There were
usually ducks and geese in the pond or on the course and
we all know how much the grounds keepers love
to clean up after the birds. Here are some that
were out one day while we were sitting on the
porch.
The next morning we went up into the mountains
to one of the passes and saw some beautiful
scenery. These are a couple of pictures taken
at a reservoir in the San Juan Mountains.
That evening we went to a rodeo! I had never
been to one and thought it would be neat
to go. It was only a small hometown one,
but they did have other people from other
places come in for it.
The kids on some of the smaller animals are only
about 5 or 6 years old. Of course about the
time they opened the gates the kids fell off, of
their animals they were riding.
They did have some teenagers riding also. They
mostly roped or did the barrels.
This last picture is of a young girl doing the
barrels it was sooo cute to see them out there.
It was a neat experience.

Bent's Old Fort

We also stopped at Bent's Old Fort. Which is a
working Fort, but not to many people were working
the day we were there.

The trading post

The kitchen.
The carpenter shop.
A peacock that was brought in for it's beauty.
A room that the furs were kept.
A woman chopping wood out in the middle of
the fort.

Pictures from inside the Fort.
Buffalo skin hung out to dry.
Mary, John, and John walking around to back
of Fort.
Me standing beside an old wagon built in the 1830's,
it is a Conestoga Wagon. This is a place that John
and his father really like to go through.

Pressing Forward!!

To carry one with our trip in review we start this
time with a trip to the Great Sand Dunes.
John, myself, Grandma, and Grandpa all walked out
to the lower part of the Sand Dune, but only John
and I dare to climb any of it. And we didn't go to
the top. Not so easy to walk in all that sand, but we
did go part way. It would have probably taken us
another hour at least to get to the top.
And of course we didn't take any water with us, so
that didn't help. It was a lot easier coming down
than going up. So Grand kids how would you like
to have this as a sand box?

The views were beautiful.
Next we stopped at Treasure Falls. They are in
the San Juan Mountains. This Fall is over 105
feet to the bottom.

Aren't these little creatures sweet! They look
as if they are kissing each other. They are what
they call pikas. They are a member of the rabbit
family. There were quite a few down at the creek,
before we walked up to the falls.
We are having a great time so far getting to see the
beauty that has been created for us to enjoy.

Taking a little time to try to catch up!!!

Now that I have a few minutes to sit down and
try and catch up on the last month and a half,
I'll try and do just that. It has been a busy month
and a half for us. After 4th of July we left on our
trip to Colorado, Grandma and Grandpa Compston
went with us, it's always fun to have the with us,
the first day we spent just driving.
Then the 2nd day we went to The Oz Museum
which was a neat place.

Then we went on to Fort Larned , which was
established in 1859 to protect mail coaches and
freighters along the Santa Fe Trail from Indian
Raids. It was an interesting place. There are tons
of other great pictures from here but it would
take all night to download them, so you'll have
to see them when you come visit. This first
picture is of some little baby birds in their
nest waiting for mom to come feed them.

Today, July 6th, was also John's birthday so we took
him out to eat in the evening. Hope you had a wonderful
birthday. I love you.
Heard from Christina today and found out that she is
pregnant. That will be our 8th grandchild.
Congratulations Jacob and Chrissy. We love you very much.
I guess this is it,until I get more time to sit down
and catch up.
Wish you all could have been there
with us.
